Hyde Park is a well known subdivision in Central Austin. A very historic neighborhood, Hyde Park had its beginnings in 1891 after it was platted & then marketed by Monrow Martin Shipe. There are some very elegant Queen Anne style old homes, many bungalows and some much smaller, modest frame homes. Hyde Park has its own neighborhood association as well as Yahoo Group.
A huge tree on the property at 4810 Caswell in North Hyde Park and it’s final demise has started a rallying cry among the neighborhood for an ordinance to protect the neighborhood trees. After the removal of a small residential home on the property, along with other trees and vegetation in the back yard, the lone survivor was a large tree standing in the middle of the back yard. Today I had lunch with friends at Hyde Park Bar and Grill located at 4206 Duval St. It’s been a while since I’ve eaten there, but I was quickly reminded of how much I enjoy the food there.
