Florence, Texas is a beautiful area north of Austin, Texas in Williamson County. Highway 195 goes to Killeen on one end and the 1 30 Expressway on the other, in between is Florence, Texas. In Killeen is Ft. Hood and also the Killeen-Fort Hood Regional Airport (GRK) at 8101 S. Clear Creek Road which has American Airlines, Continental Airlines and Delta as its resident airlines and offers many direct, non-stop flights to cities such as the Dallas Fort Worth airport as well as Houston, Texas and Atlanta, Georgia. Not many people realize this airport is there and it offers an alternative to Austin Bergstrom Airport. The new 1 30 Expressway makes Florence so much closer to Austin than ever before.

Florence has several restaurants including Mano’s Mexican Food, El Charrito Mexican Food and Katie’s Kitchen. Florence Hardware is a must see for hardware but also to see a piece of old Texas. It is like stepping back in time. There is a nice wood stove that feels so good on cool days. The Rattlesnake Inn in Florence on Highway 195 is the oldest honky tonk in Williamson County. The Vineyard at Florence offers a winery with tasting room, restaurant, Bed and Breakfast as well as hosting the annual Tour de Florence charity fund raiser bike ride. Walburg, Texas just to the northeast offers great German cuisine as well as a Biergarten and The Walburg Boys at the Walburg Restaurant. Stop at the old-fashioned Andice General Store just south of Florence for great burgers, baskets and a wide assortment of hard to find bottled drinks. Georgetown, Texas is just south of Florence and is a mecca for fine dining, medical care, great hospitals and clinics and entertainment. For fantastic horseback riding trails take where many TETRA (Texas Equestrian Trail Riders Association) rides are held, take Highway 195 west of Florence through Ding Dong and past the Lampasas River to the Parrie Haynes Ranch.
