La Ventana is a little hidden treasure south of Austin, in Driftwood. Because La Ventana is “off the beaten path,” not many people know it even exists. This hill country neighborhood is comprised of large custom homes on oversized lots. Some of the homes in the upper part of the community have great views of the Texas hill country. But all the lots in La Ventana have plenty of trees and wildlife. It’s not uncommon to see herds of deer just standing around in residents yards eating, playing or sleeping. I once saw a dog playing with a deer while driving through the neighborhood. La Ventana is located off of Elder Hill Road, just west of FM 150. Current (October 2010) La Ventana homes range from the low $400’s to over $1 million.

La Ventana’s greatest advantage is it’s serene location. If you are looking to be away from the hustle and bustle of the busy city, this is the place for you. Uniquely, you will find horse back riding trails throughout the neighborhood. Other amenities include community club house, fitness center, a pool and sand volleyball courts.
La Ventana area Shopping and Dining
Just 3.5 miles south of La Ventana you will find the Salt Lick, located off of FM 1826. The Salt Lick offers delicious Texas-style barbecue. What make the Salt Lick unique is that they don’t sell alcohol, but not to worry , they let you bring your very own ice chest filled with your favorite brew! If you want to do some shopping you have to travel a bit further, into South Austin or San Marcos.
