Where is Central Austin?

As you can guess, Central Austin is situated in the core of the city of Austin and radiates out like concentric circles from the capitol. But it far exceeds the core of downtown. Founded near the banks of the Colorado River in the early to mid-1800s, the village of Waterloo originally consisted of the business district east and west of Congress Avenue. Neighborhoods quickly spread east, west and eventually south of the river. Today we consider the following neighborhoods to be the core of Austin: Travis Heights, Tarrytown, Old West Austin, Old Enfield, Hyde Park, Barton Hills, Clarksville, Bryker Woods, Pemberton Heights, Rosedale, Bouldin Creek and the University of Texas area. The neighborhoods of Brentwood, Crestview and Allandale round out the northern boundaries of Central Austin. Zip codes include 78701, 78703, 78704, 78705, 78751, 78756, and 78731.
