Welcome to Lockhart, Texas!

While working the other day I had a chance to visit Lockhart. Lockhart is another one of the great smaller communities located in the Central Texas area that have their own uniqueness. Lockhart is the county seat of Caldwell County and has probably one of the most photographed courthouses in the State if not the Country. It is in the square, downtown and there are still many businesses located around it. Lockhart has the charming feel of a town comfortable with its progress. Always modernizing but keeping the quietness of small town life. Lockhart is located about sixty miles northeast of San Antonio but only 30 miles south of Austin on Highway 183. There has not been much development in this area but with the opening of the new SH 130 and SH 45 access to the north of Austin, Round Rock or IH 35 to the west will make travel to major employers and shopping more accessible.
Lockhart is one of those quiet out of the way little towns that you have heard about but don’t really know why or where it is located You have probably heard of it because of the BBQ ( Lockhart was named the BBQ capitol of Texas by the State Legislature) a few years ago. Lockhart is a favorite town to many in the area because of its BBQ, of course, but also the warm and friendly people that make up this community. There is an air of contentment and stability but also an energy and excitement that embraces the changing times. Lockhart, like other communities around the Austin metro area is growing. There are numerous restaurants, antique shops, local boutiques and shops as well as larger department stores. There are museums and local performing arts (always looking for volunteers). There is a sports complex, and a movie theater. Lockhart has been the scene of many movies, commercials and T.V. shows that were shot on location here. Lockhart has a State park located just outside of town and other camping and park facilities. Like most of small town America, Lockhart has its own brand of local events and celebrations. Since this area has not yet been developed, the real estate around Lockhart is diverse and still affordable. There are still large tracts of farm land and ranches or maybe  a historical older home located just off  Main Street is what interest you.. There are older and newer subdivisions that offer all the advantages of being close to town but allow you to keep that neighborhood friendliness that families are looking for.
Lockhart ISD has plans to meet the growing population. Plans are being made for a new elementary school which would bring the total to six. There is one kindergarten, one junior high, one freshman campus and a high school. Lockhart is also within 30 miles of numerous colleges and universities.
Lockhart, like so many other small towns has had its share of being a boom town or one on hard times. And like many other small towns the citizens keep its spirit alive and doing well. And like most small Central Texas communities you are invited to come and visit or come and stay if you like what you see.  I would love to talk with you about Lockhart or another community in the area. Welcome to Lockhart!
