Buda Texas
Neighborhoods & Towns
Central Texas is a combination of wide open spaces and hill country beauty. There are also small and not so small communities around nearly every curve. Buda is one of these communities situated just off I-35 in Hays County. It is approximately 17 miles from Austin, 15 miles from San Marcos, 25 miles from New Braunfels and 60 miles from San Antonio. This puts it in a great location to travel to either Austin or San Antonio.
This community commonly called "Budaful Buda" is exactly what the name implies. Buda is a small, friendly and relaxing community just south of Austin with a rich and colorful history. As with most small towns Buda has its own brand of fun and festivals. In April there is the Lions Club Country Fair and Cook-off which host the ever popular Weiner Dog Races. This is an annual country fair which has gained national attention for these races. Participants come from all over the country for this event. The chili cook-off for this event is also a point qualifier for the Terlingua International Chili Championship. In the months following there is an Easter Egg Hunt, Buda Clean Sweep, Concerts in the Park, there are activites for the National Night Out Program, Red White and Buda is a Fourth of July Celebration, a movie in the park, Buda's Fine Arts Festival, Downtown Booda Halloween, and for 20 years "Budafest" which is the first week-end in December. Saturday and Sunday are jampacked with activities, including a parade with homemade floats, veterans groups; high school bands all marching down Main Street. Any and all organizations will be selling handcrafts of every type, and food from turkey legs to tamales. This is the festival everyone is involved with. Then there is the Buda Sportsplex being built. This park will serve hundreds of kids playing soccer and softball .It is located adjacent to the YMCA on FM 967/1627. Even with the widespread growth Buda still has a local and neighborly feel to it.
The development in far South Austin of South Park Meadows at Slaughter Lane and I-35,and the extension of SH 45@ I-35, the distance between Buda and Austin is almost closed. Buda offers great place to work and live with a small town personality while taking advantage of its close proximity to downtown Austin. Buda offers shopping and dining close to home that includes major chains and superstores as well as local shopping or dining in some of the original buildings located in the Historic District. A little farther north is Southpark Meadows, which has brought a multi-acre shopping, dining and housing development to South Austin. A little to the south in San Marcos are the famous Outlet Malls which offer some of the best shopping around.
If you are looking for a home or real estate, Buda has it all. Buda has homes in the historic district and subdivisions along I-35 but it also expands even farther out to include homes on large and small acre tracts. Commercial property is also available for those wishing to locate their business here.
All of Hays County has experienced phenomenal growth the past couple of years and specifically Buda. Maintaining quality management and planning of the widespread growth which affects all the residents in and surrounding Buda, the citizens of Buda have managed to combine Buda's heritage with the present and the future to preserve a quality of life everyone can enjoy.
