158987177HI!  My name is Betty (Raetzsch) Saenz & I am a Native Texan & Texas REALTOR.  I work with buyers & sellers specializing in residential, GREEN, Horse & Farm & Ranch properties.  I have sold many green homes including a Peter Pfeiffer home made from ICFs (Insulated Concrete Forms), low VOC materials and sometimes including only rainwater harvesting for water (no city or well water).  An experienced horseperson, I know horse properties & ranches.

I have taken the many courses and earned the GRI designation- Graduate REALTOR® Institute.

I also have the SRES® - Seniors Real Estate Specialist- designation to help with Seniors aged 50-plus.  Many times I help children who's parents have a need to move into an assisted living facility or nursing home.  It is sad to sell the old family home and I understand.  I also help people buy or sell in the great Active Adult communities like Sun City and others in Georgetown, Texas.

A Native Texan going back to the Republic of Texas- let me show you around Austin & my state. In many places in the state of Texas such as Hochheim, New Braunfels & Seguin. where there are historical markers and buildings of my family.  Anton Pieper, was involved in Bulverde and Pieper Settlement.  Another relative, Valentin Hoch built a stagecoach stop on the Indianola to Austin run.

On a personal note I enjoy organic gardening, xeriscaping, native plants, walking in beautiful parks, ranches and greenbelt spaces; riding horses; time with my children & grandchildren; reading; bargain shopping; going to Whole Foods, Central Market and Farmer's Markets, drinking Kombucha; traveling; enjoying life in Texas and the beautiful Hill Country.

I am interested and involved in water conservation and water use planning; I am Commissioner Place 6 on the Leander Planning and Zoning Commission. We have so many people moving to Texas and Austin, I believe we need to plan for the growth so it is done well and not haphazardly.

A Night Out in Old Town Leander, Texas

Thursday, December 10th, 2009 at 9:12pm. 46 Views, 0 Comments.

I enjoyed a night out in Old Town Leander, Texas tonight. First I had my Planning and Zoning Meeting at the Leander City Hall or Pat Bryson Municipal Hall as it is called at 201 North Brushy Street, Leander, TX 78641 in Old Town. I enjoy my work volunteering for the City of Leander. One of our Zoning Cases tonight dealt with a bio technology company in Cambridge, Massachusetts called Joule Biotechnologies wanting to do research and development on alternative energy in Leander on part of the TOD land. I find this fascinating and I do sincerely hope they are successful in their quest to produce renewable fuels from sunlight and waste CO2.

After my Leander P & Z meeting I went across the street to the O’Leander Café to enjoy some great live music. I do enjoy…

pleasant_hill_elementary_paper_recycle_resized_467

Oak Ridge is a neighborhood of about 500 homes in growing Leander, Williamson County, Texas. My home is one of them and as an EcoBroker and just concerned citizen, I recycle. My kitchen vegetable scraps get composted in my backyard compost bin. I use this delectable compost to increase the fertility of my yard's soil. My plants and grass love it. I am a member of TOFGA, the Texas Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association and my yard is also a National Wildlife Association Certified Wildlife Habitat. So if you need tips on organic gardening, xeriscaping, using native plants and conserving water, contact me. My plastic, metal, glass and aluminum get picked up curbside by our local waste management company- Clawson Disposal, Inc. out of Jarrell, Texas who is…

I love looking at statistics, they just tell such a great story. Although while taking statistics when getting my degree, I did not think it was so fun! The year is almost over and it is fun to see what homes set records in what neighborhoods. Texas is a non-disclosure state so I cannot disclose exact figures, or even an address publicly, but wanted to give you an idea of how exceptional the neighborhood of Grand Mesa is. As of today, December 7th, 2009, the highest selling home price in Austin's MLS system for Leander, Texas for 2009 was in Crystal Fall’s Grand Mesa. As an EcoBroker®, I was happy to see that the home had Low e windows, tankless water heaters, a radient barrier and was called “ultra efficient”. At well over a million dollars this custom…

Monday, December 7th, 2009 at 8:56am. 40 Views, 0 Comments.

The Leander, Texas Police Department has received the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc, or CALEA Accreditation Award. What does this mean for the City of Leander? CALEA sees a correlation between Money magazine’s “Best Places to Live” lists and the CALEA Law Enforcement Accreditation. CALEA, an independent accrediting organization has developed a voluntary program enabling law enforcement agencies to demonstrate meeting of professionally recognized criteria for excelling not only in law enforcement delivery of services but also in management. The Leander Police Department worked for three years to obtain this prestigious accreditation.

The Leander, Texas Police Department is located just east of Highway 183 and the railroad…

Oak Ridge is an established neighborhood in Leander, Texas of about 500 homes. Most of the homes in the subdivision were built in the 1980’s and 1990’s and there are two distinct architectural styles generally reflecting these two time periods. There are two homes that were built in 2008 on Laurel Glen Boulevard, the main street into the Oak Ridge neighborhood. Oak Ridge has a mandatory HOA or Homeowner’s Association. The Oak Ridge HOA dues are very reasonable and pay for maintainence of the common areas, etc. There is a swimming pool with cabana and bathrooms, shady grass areas, Bar B Q grills and picnic tables. The Oak Ridge community park includes tennis and basketball courts; a children’s play area with swings and various play structures in an all…

What is Leander’s TOD and Why Is It Sustainable or GREEN?

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009 at 9:06pm. 31 Views, 0 Comments.

The City of Leander, Texas has a 2,300 acre TOD that is in the beginning stages of its physical development. “Just what is a TOD?” you may ask. A TOD is a Transit Oriented Development. TODs are considered green and sustainable because they are high quality “walkable” pedestrian oriented, compact mixed-use developments centered around mass transit. "Mixed-use" development means a real estate development with commercial and residential buildings and projects. The thought is to have various shops and services as well as housing all together so you never have to leave the TOD to go eat, get groceries, go to the drycleaner, etc. Since I work with all types of people, including those with various handicaps that impede their ability to walk, I personally prefer…
