Red Rock is a rural Bastrop County community that was founded in the mid-1800s. Originally the settlement was supposed to have been called Hannah Land but there are conflicting old-timer stories that say the name of the community either came from the high iron content of the red soil or from the red rock chimney of one of the first settler’s homes that stood out from all the rest.

Red Rock Today
Red Rock is still a bustling community. It prospered in the early 1900s as a market center for cotton, but today is primarily a rural residential and agricultural area where you can find small gentleman’s ranches or larger acreage for raising cattle or horses. The land is rolling in nature, offering varied terrain. There are some wet weather creeks in the area and a few spring-fed ponds which are highly sought after. The red soils are sandy in nature, which is great for gardening and livestock.
