Bastrop was founded in the mid 1800′s by Stephen F. Austin and just recently celebrated its 175th birthday. Nestled along the Colorado River, the town of Bastrop offers a great mix of old and new, with wonderful vintage and historic homes and storefronts downtown. Bastrop has been dubbed “the most historic small town in Texas.” There are wonderful rural residential developments scattered among Bastrop’s “Lost Pines”. Not only can residents and visitors enjoy the beauty and amenities of the Colorado River, they also have the benefits of the Lake Bastrop Recreational Area and Bastrop State Park to explore which are only minutes away from downtown.

Bastrop is a little city tucked in the middle of the Lost Pines. It has so much to offer on either end of the spectrum. Bastrop has so much history but also so much new growth. It is easy to see why people are moving to this community.
Where is Bastrop?
Bastrop is on Hwy 71 between Interstate 10 and Interstate 35. This is minutes from Austin-Bergstrum Airport and great downtown Austin entertainment. It is located on the Colorado River, which provides its own entertainment, from birding to kayaking.
Bastrop has so much to offer for any interest. There is shopping, from downtown antiques to new retail. Sightseeing ranges from Bastrop County Historical Society Museum to the Bastrop Opera House. Nature buffs can kayak on the Colorado or camp and fish with the family in one of the two State Parks
With many areas to choose from it would be easy to find the dream home. There are beautiful homes in the Lost Pines area or the newest subdivision The Colony. Bastrop and the other towns thoughout the country have been recognized for their work preserving their historic and vintage homes and for establishing historic districts as well as promoting historic tourism. Bastrop’s historic district has a wide variety of wonderful historic and vintage homes, and downtown Bastrop has a great Main Street lined with historic commercial buildings dating back to the late 1800′s.

Just take a drive down Church, Water, Hill, or Spring Streets to see just a few of the area historic and vintage homes which include Greek Rival and Queen Ann architectural styles and vintage Craftsman and bungalow style houses too.
When to visit Bastrop Historic and Vintage Homes
Just about any time of the year is a great time to visit the Bastrop Historic District to see the historic and vintage homes. In Spring time the homes are in their flowered finery, Summer you can enjoy the welcome shade that the big old trees that line the streets have to offer, in Autumn front yards and porches are adorned with festive fall decorations such as pumpkins and scarecrows. During the Holidays in years past the Bastrop Historical Society has put together a Historic Holiday Home Tour which is a perfect time to see these homes inside and out in their Holiday best, enjoy the different architectural styles, all of the decorations that proud owners put up, and a great way to get in the holiday spirit.
