Bastrop is located southeast of Austin on Highway 71, and is just 22 miles from Austin Bergstrom International Airport. Founded in the mid 1800's by Stephen F. Austin, Bastrop just recently celebrated its' 175th birthday. The friends of Bastrop County Animal Shelter are holding a fundraiser "Hearts for Paws" Sunday February 14th at Maxines on Main in downtown Bastrop. A new Convention Center is in the works here in Bastrop Texas. The plans are for a 26,000 sq. ft. facility to be built across Chestnut Street from the new City Hall that is under now under construction and scheduled to be finished this summer. Lake Bastrop is a man made lake located between Bastrop and Paige off of Hwy 71 in Bastrop County Texas. There are two access points to the lake; the South Shore and the North Shore. There is a small daily admission fee and both have public facilities as well as small boat ramps but trolling motors only I think on small fishing boats.
